Monrovia – According to the Liberia Refugee, Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC), more than 149,000 US dollars will be required to finish the construction of its brand-new, one-story building headquarter, which is currently being built in Sinkor, Monrovia.

Reverend Festus Logan, the Executive Director of LRRRC, revealed that the United Nations High Commission for Refugees has contributed an amount of 200,000 US dollars to help fund the building’s construction.

Reverend Logan made the disclosure when he led a high-power delegation comprising the representatives of the Internal Affairs Ministry and UNHCR on a guarded tour of the new building being constructed by the LRRRC in Sinkor, Monrovia.

According to him, all the officials who have been appointed by President George Weah are under the mandate to implement his vision. He said one of the visions of President Weah is for institutions of government to construct their own buildings.

“The first face of the building is almost finished, the second face is for the government and other partners to come and finish the entire building.”

Anthony Abogi, the UNHCR’s country representative, commended the LRRRC’s leadership for their up-to-date efforts. He claimed that based on his observations, the LRRRC building’s construction has advanced significantly and is expected to be completed shortly.

Mr. Abogi continued that he had been working on the project with the LRRRC Executive Director almost weekly and that he hoped it would be completed quickly. The UNHCR Country Representative expressed satisfaction that the LRRRC, a government agency in charge of the refugee problem, is now stepping up as an organization to have its own building.

Varney Sirleaf, the minister of internal affairs and chairman of the LRRRC board, stated that the work was 85% finished and that the building roofing was currently being installed. The Minister thanked the UNCHR for working with the LRRRC to create the building and gave the partner the assurance that the government would do everything possible to see the project through to completion.
The chief engineer of the building’s construction firm led Minister Sirleaf, the UNHCR Country Representative, and Reverend Logan on the guarded tour.
