LSEZA HITS MAJOR MILESTONE IN AGRO-INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT

TURNS OVER SPECIAL AGRO-PROCESSING SITE TO CONTRACTOR IN GRAND BASSA COUNTY

GRAND BASSA COUNTY – A significant milestone in the government of Liberia’s agro-industrial development program has been reached with the official transfer of the Special Agro-Processing Zone (SAPZ) project site in Grand Bassa County to the contractor, HM & A, by the Liberia Special Economic Zones Authority (LSEZA).

In accordance with the contract supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB), HM & A would construct a 4.7-kilometer access road to the projected agro-industrial park, clear the property, erect fencing, and create access for electricity transmission lines.

Over 210 hectares of land are set aside for the construction of a contemporary Special Agro-Processing Zone as part of the project, which is anticipated to take 18 months to complete. Through the authorized Resettlement Action Plan (RAP), the Government of Liberia resettled the affected villages’ population, who willingly donated the land.

Dr. Macdonald Metzger, Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration, spoke on behalf of Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung and stated that the SAPZ project demonstrates the Government of Liberia’s dedication to inclusive growth and job creation. He added that the initiative will open up investment opportunities, enhance agricultural production, and establish Liberia as a competitive agro-industrial destination.

The handover, according to Prince Wreh, Head of the Liberia Special Economic Zones Authority, marks a change from planning to execution. He added that the Liberia Special Economic Zones Authority was created to identify and prepare economic zones that are ready for investment, and that the SAPZ will act as a catalyst for large-scale employment, export growth, and agro-processing, especially for the residents of Grand Bassa County.

In addition to creating jobs for locals, the SAPZ’s construction is anticipated to draw both domestic and foreign investors to a brand-new, fully equipped industrial site meant to increase exports and economic growth.

The Superintendent of Grand Bassa County, the Senate Pro Tempore, and members of the county’s legislative caucus all attended the ceremony and offered their support for turning Grand Bassa into a vital industrial and commerce hub for Liberia’s growth.

LSEZA’s legal responsibility to create Special Economic Zones throughout Liberia as catalysts for industrialization, investor attraction, and sustainable economic transformation is highlighted by the SAPZ program.
