Monrovia, Liberia – Montserrado County District #5 Representative Prescilla Abram Cooper has what would be described as a betrary to the Majority Block to scale back her participation from the effort to remove Hon.Cllr J. Fonati Koffa as Speaker of the 55th House of Representatives until such time when the “majority members” would have secured the 49 votes required to constitute a two-thirds majority in order to constitutionally remove him as the Speaker.
Speaking Monday, November 4, 2024 at a press conference in Monrovia, Representative Cooper said her initial decision to support the majority members was because of the interest in some of the clauses in the resolution with the opportunity of giving the speaker due process to address the concerns as enshrined in Article 49 and 20(a) of the 1986 constitution of the Republic of Liberia as well as rule 9.1 of the rules and procedures of the House of Representatives.
According to her, since it has been over one month and the procedure has not been followed, she is disengaging to wait until the right procedures are followed.
“It is essential that we avoid engaging in anything that could have the propensity of derailing the progress of our democracy or that could be the cause of undermining President Boakai’s ARREST AGENDA, which prioritizes reform and stability for all Liberians,” she stated.
Therefore, the Montserrado County District #5 Representative has called upon her colleagues, “Majority members” , to return to the session recognized by the law, constitution and rules, so that they can refocus on doing the people’s business in a lawful, unified, productive, constitutional and constructive manners, while we await the petition to come to plenary for their actions.
Representative Cooper indicated that the Liberian people deserve a government committed to their progress; adding that she remains dedicated to upholding the trust.
