Man Alarms over Death Threat

AFTERATTEMPING TO EXPOS FGM PRATITIONERS.

Monrovia, Liberia – Oumaru D. Jabateh, a resident of the Gardnersville Kesselly Boulevard Community, alerted authorities on Thursday, December 21, 2023, to a purported threat of death made against him by female general mutilation practitioners.

He claimed that people from indigenous communities who are thought to be performing female genital mutilation (FGM) are pursuing him because he pledged to expose them in a letter to the United States Embassy, the Liberia National Police, and the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR).

“I am writing to inform you on this date, November 17, 2023, regarding the risk and threat to my life by an indigenous society that claims to be executing Female Genital Mutilation.”

He described going to the Sande Bush in Bong County to save his younger sister, Bendu D. Jabateh, who was taken to Sande Bush. In order to ensure his safety, he has filed complaints with the Liberia National Police (LNP), the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR), and the US Embassy in Liberia. He is pleading with them to investigate his situation.

“They are pursuing me because I captured images of them cutting and degrading the children on camera. I’m submitting my complaint to the U.S. Embassy in Liberia, the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR), and the Liberia National Police (LNP) with the request that they investigate my situation and give me lifelong protection.

He claimed that on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, members of the indigenous society broke into his home in an attempt to assassinate him. Luckily, he was able to flee, but not before they had taken his phone, which contained all of his proof, and destroyed it. He pleaded with national security to intervene on his behalf and protect him from his purported assailant.
