MFDP Minister Kamara Steps down, citing Health Reasons

Monrovia, Liberia – Boima Kamara, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Republic of Liberia has officially resigned as Minister. According to reports, there were series of reasons behind Minister Kamara resignation; amongst them is his alleged poor health condition.

The Finance Minister’s departure has shocked many Liberians after almost six months of the Unity Party Administration. The minister’s rapid resignation was reportedly prompted in part by his opposition to the contentious yellow machine contract, despite his health being claimed as the primary cause of his departure.

Top members in President Boakai’s administration are said to be split on the agreement, with some openly rejecting it, including Minister Kamara. Although these officials disagree with the purchase of the equipment, they are not happy with some practices being followed by certain of their colleagues, notably that of Minister of State without Portfolio Mamaka Bility.

The forceful resignation of Kamara from the Institution is allegedly encouraged, among other things, by President Boakai’s claimed lack of faith and confidence in Kamara’s performance and capacity to serve to his satisfaction.

According to reports, the Liberian Leader is expected to officially accept the outgoing Finance Minister resignation and subsequently nominate a new Finance Minister to fill the vacancy.

Two well-liked candidates for replacement have been around in the corridors, former General Auditing Commission (GAC) auditor general John Morlu and former Finance and Foreign Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafua.
