Monrovia, Liberia – Miatta Fahnbullah, the head of the JNB-JKK inaugural committee on January 22, 2024, defended the committee’s actions on Thursday, blaming the 55th Legislature, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ authority, and Mary Broh, the director of the General Services Agency (GSA), for the nation’s embarrassment.

Speaking at the regular press briefing of the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism on Thursday, January 25, 2024, in Monrovia, Miatta Fahnbullah stated that the team’s failure was attributed to the subcommittee members’ lack of corporations.

Madam Fahnbullah contended that no one person can be held responsible for the dishonor and embarrassment the country suffered as a result of the badly executed inauguration ceremonies of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah Kong Koung.

The budget allocated for the ceremony by the Liberian government, she insisted, was never under the jurisdiction of the first subcommittee. Madam Fahnbullah said a signatory from the Foreign Ministry was in charge of the six hundred and fifty thousand US dollars that the government’s Transitional Team had secured.

According to her, the joint presidential transition team subcommittee conveyed that her suggestion to utilize the pavilion was not accepted by the legislature or the GSA. At the same time, she described the 2024 inauguration ceremony as a total embarrassment and called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to take action, adding that her reputation has been tarnished in the country.

Madam Fahnbullah accused the authority at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of downplaying the protocol trained to manage the ceremony both at the church and the inauguration. Addressing journalists in Monrovia, the head of the inaugural team stated she was astonished to see the new protocol at the church on Sunday, January 21, and at the inauguration program.

Meanwhile, the 2024 inauguration is deemed by the public to be the worst in post-war Liberia, with a totally disorganized protocol.
