Monrovia, Liberia – Over 50 Liberian journalists covering the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, ended a day-long capacity-building training in Monrovia. The training was organized by a Liberian Communication Expert Mr. Hassan Kiawo in collaboration with the Public Affairs Department at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs & Tourism (MICAT).

Ledgerhood Rennie, the minister of information, and Jarlawah A. Tonpo, his deputy for press and public affairs, attended the full-day training.

The MICAT-accredited journalists were urged to take advantage of training opportunities whenever they were presented by Minister Rennie, who spoke at the start of the full-day training session. He added that growing capacity is beneficial to the work that journalists do, despite the many difficulties they face every day, they must always be open to learning. Minister Rennie emphasized the importance of education in improving the reading and writing abilities of media professionals worldwide.

Morris Welh Tee, chairman of the MICAT Reporters Network, said the organization will try to enlist additional partners to expand the members’ access to training. He added that because journalists play a crucial part in society, it is important to emphasize the importance of developing their skills. The chairman of the MICAT Reporters Network also asked journalists to exercise caution when doing their reporting obligations, particularly during election period.

The training was held on June 29, 2023, at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs & Tourism (MICAT) conference hall.
