The Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has challenged women, especially those involved with agriculture al production, to collaborate in order to increase food production in the County. Asserting that Liberia possesses the land and water needed to grow enough food to feed both itself and others, Minister Alice Johnson- Howard claimed that a country that cannot fend for itself will always rely on aid.

During her remarks on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at a one-day agribusiness training program for women in Paynesville, Minister Howard noted that women can lead the industry by developing goods and providing services that would support the creation of jobs, which will contribute to economic growth and development.

The founder of Women in Agriculture for Sustainable Development emphasized in remarks that women play a significant role in agriculture and should participate in capacity-building training to better understand the agriculture sector and its potential. Working with the majority of small-scale farmers and farming organizations, like Women in Agriculture for Sustainable Development, according to Hawa Varney, has aided women’s agricultural endeavors.

Women in Agriculture for Sustainable Development (WASUDEV) is a regional nongovernmental organization that works in rural areas to improve the living conditions of women and girls through local economic development, agribusiness development that fosters prosperity, and women’s participation in decision-making.

Women from across Paynesville and Johnsonville, respectively, participated in the workshop, with the theme “Grooming Successful Women Agribusiness Leaders.”
