Minister Piah Debuke Eugene Nagba Statement that Former President Weah was Deny Access To VIP at RIA

Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism of the government of Liberia has denied any claim that it denied former President George Weah entry to the VIP lounge at the Roberts International Airport in Margibi County.

Information Minister Jerelinmik Piah stated, “The allegation of denying former President George Weah access to the VIP lounge is far from reality,” during a news briefing on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 in Monrovia.

The accusations, according to Minister Piah, are propaganda against the government, and those involved are attempting to elicit sympathy from the Liberian people.

He clarified that former president Weah was asked, prior to his departure, if he would like to have the VIP lounge ready for his arrival; but, he declined and insisted on using the regular airport lounge.

Piah simultaneously called on previous government leaders to stop using disinformation and diversion tactics to deceive the nation.

Minister Piah’s remarks appear In light of reports that members of the House of Representatives have called on pertinent government agencies to provide an explanation for the former president’s purported recent denial of admission to the RIA’s VIP lounge.
