Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Education has issued the 2024–2025 academic calendar as part of its commitment to carrying out the government’s agenda for human capacity development and goal to boost enrollment in primary schools nationwide.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism in Monrovia on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Minister Jarso Jallah stated that the nationwide school registration process started on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Minister Jallah added that the registration will be open until Saturday, August 31, at which point classes will formally commence across the nation on Monday, September 2, 2024.
The Minister declared, “The Ministry has maintained the annual fees for all public schools in the nation in our ongoing effort to provide quality education while maintaining affordability.”
The government has slashed public school tuition significantly as a result of Minister Jallah’s emphasis on the necessity of increased enrollment for this academic year. In the Early Years, there are three different price points: $1,000 for years 1-6, $2,000 for grades 7-9, and $3,000 for grades 10–12.
According to her, these expenses are necessary to maintain universal access to education and to the supplies needed to create a supportive learning environment.
Dr. Jallah stated that strict mechanisms would be put in place to guarantee accountability in the utilization of these money. The schools will keep all registration fees and use them to directly fund their ongoing operations.
