Monrovia- A two-day national education conference is scheduled to take place in Monrovia with assistance from the Ministry of Education and UNICEF. The national education conference will bring together a cross-section of stakeholders in the education sector to examine the issues and work done, and forward suggestions for the future, according to the education minister, Dr. Ansu Sonii.
Minister Sonii and the Resident Representative of the UN Children’s Agency in Congo Town spoke at a joint press conference, and Minister Sonii indicated that the conference attendees will also debate the five-year plan created in order to get feedback from stakeholders.
The national education conference, according to the ministry, will be placed at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town on December 13 and 14, 2022. The education minister revealed that the five-year plan will cost close to USD$1 billion to implement over a number of years.
The United Nations Children’s Fund’s resident representative has asked for coordinated efforts to stop the overcrowding of educational or vocational institutions with children.
The issue of underprivileged adolescents, according to Madam Laila Gad, requires a special group of professionals to debate a method for resolving the issues. She underlined the UN children’s agency’s support for tackling the issues faced by kids without formal schooling and helping them get some sort of vocational training.
The goals of the conference, according to its planners, were to examine and pinpoint the major gaps, bottlenecks, and recommendations for the efficient implementation and execution of pertinent policies and plans. The conference aims to advance ideas for improving stakeholder commitment to action, reviewing the effectiveness of participation mechanisms, establishing mutual accountability, and building strong partnerships via awareness.
Participants from the executive and legislative arms of government, donor organizations, development partners, traditional leaders, and civil society organizations are anticipated at the conference.
