Monrovia, Liberia – Assuring President Joseph N. Boakai of a thorough investigation and subsequent prosecutions of all individuals connected to the former auditors’ death, Justice Minister and Liberian Attorney General Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh has reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to achieving justice for Liberians.

During his first cabinet meeting in 2025, the Liberian leader ordered the Justice Minister to carry out a thorough inquiry into unsolved incidents of strange deaths, such as the deaths of auditors and the three missing boys, as well as other issues of national significance, on Monday, March 3, 2025.

In his mandate, President Boakai stated that the Liberian people should be given answers and that no case will be disregarded in order to guarantee justice is done and put an end to these tragedies.

At the same time, the President instructed law enforcement institutions to speed up their investigations, work with foreign partners if needed, and keep the public informed on a regular basis. He gave assurances that his administration is dedicated to complete openness and will not stand for impunity.

In response to President Boakai’s directive, Minister Tweh gave the President and the Cabinet his word that the Ministry will continue to carry out its responsibilities impartially and ensure that all citizens, regardless of status, have equal access to the legal system.

It can be recalled, on October 17, 2020, Robert M. Blamo, Jr, 29, Siafa Gbana Boimah, 34, and Bobby S. Gbeanquoi, 32, reportedly drowned in a river in Fuama district, lower Bong County, when a canoe they were allegedly riding capsized while returning to their respective homes.

According to reports, the three young people went to work for Mr. Abraham G. Samuel and Mr. Moses Ahossoule, who owned St. Moses Funeral Home.

The Association of Female Lawyers (AFFLL), the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR), the Inter-religious Council, and the Liberia National Police (LNP) Representative of different Security Agencies formed an Independent Investigative Panel.

Reports of the strange deaths of four internal auditors in the public sector in Liberia in 2022 have rocked the internal auditing profession, prompting requests for a more thorough inquiry into the events.

Over the course of eight days, from October 3 to October 10, four people were killed: Albert Peters, Gifty Lama, George F. Fanbutu, and Emmanuel Barten Nyeswua, director general of the Liberia Internal Audit Agency.

All four reportedly were conducting audits of Liberia government accounts over allegations of misappropriation of funds. Nyeswua died of a reported fall at his residence, while the others died in suspicious car accidents.
