Monrovia City Court Finds Kindness Wilson Guilty of Offense of Simple Assault

Fines US$375 and Ordering to Publish a Formal Letter of Apology in Three Local Dailies

Monrovia, Liberia – The Monrovia City Court has found defendant Kindness Wilson guilty of simple assault. She was required to publish an official letter of apology in three local newspapers and was fined US$375.

Defence lawyer Jeremiah Samuel Dugbo challenged the ruling while maintaining his client’s innocence. Counsel argued that the conviction is unlawful since the prosecution did not prove the element of the offence accused.

In a social media post, prosecutor Moriah Yeakulah described the ruling as a step toward accountability. noting that after the defendant entered a not guilty plea, it became their duty to work with the State to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Although the victim is relieved by the result, cllr. Moriah Yeakula pointed out that the legal process is still ongoing because the defence has declared its intention to appeal the ruling. She stressed that she was prepared to pursue the issue at whatever stage, even the Supreme Court if needed.

Cllr. Yeakula also used the occasion to urge people to settle disagreements amicably and to warn against violence. upholding the idea that justice is about maintaining fairness and accountability rather than winning or losing.
