Monrovia Super Kings crowns Champions of Liberia Premier League season 5 Cricket tournament (Jeety Cup).

The 2021/2022 Liberia Premier League season 5 Cricket tournament ended on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at the ELWA Compound on the Roberts International Airport high way with Monrovia Super Kings walking away with the title.

They defeated Royal Striker 113-75 points in 14 overs and 9 wickets to claim the title after battling first.

They were rewarded with one thousand five hundred United States dollars (1500USD) and a trophy.

South Beach Smashers for their part, defeated Tally Globe by 79/1-76/9 in
5.2 overs and 9 wickets to claim the 3rd place trophy.

Former Indian Honorary Consulate, Dr. Upjit Singh Schadeva (Dr. Jeety) was named Chief Patron of Cricket in Liberia and Board member of the Liberia National Cricket Federation during the awards ceremony of the tournament.

    Dr. Jeety

His recognition was made public by the President of Liberia National Cricket Federation, Michael Yeanah following the climax of the tournament which was marked with ceremony to recognize individual award winners and Champions.

According to the President of Liberia National Cricket Federation, Mr. Jeety has contributed significantly to the improvement of the sport in the country; something he said worth recognition at this time.

” Your support to cricket in Liberia is very huge, and as such, we need you on the Liberia National Cricket Federation as Board member and Chief Patron joining Mr. Roopesh Ram who is the Board chair of the federation”.

” I also want to appreciate Mr. Roopesh Ram and his wife for their tirelessly efforts in ensuring that Liberia Premier League is organized every year through his company, Tally Globe”.

” Mr. Roopesh, I must admit, you are doing extremely well for cricket in this country”.

” I also want to appreciate the sponsors for committing themselves in sponsoring the competition and the ELWA Ministry for allowing us to host our competition and the MOU for the introduction of cricket in your school, the Liberia National Cricket Federation President Michael Yeanah concludes”.

For his part, the newly inducted Board member and Chief Patron of Liberia National Cricket Federation, Dr. Jeety, expressed happiness to see Liberian kids playing cricket.

He encouraged more Liberian to express interest in the sport.

” My hope is to see not just Indians but more Liberian playing cricket, which I believe will help to develop the sport across the country”.

” I have been here at the opening and closing of this tournament on numerals occasions, but I am very much happy today because, the league is getting better and better every year.

I am told the league has foreign players from Sierra Leone.

“I think with the MOU signing of the Liberia National Cricket Federation and ELWA Ministry for the training of young Liberian to play cricket will boost Liberia chances of having a national cricket team in the future, which is my consent”, Dr. Jeety added.

The Chief organizer of Liberia Premier League cricket tournament, Roopesh Ram said the league started in 2018 as Indian Premier League which had Liberia National Cricket team participating and several other teams from different nationals.

He explained that season one and two were called Indian Premier League until season three which the league transition to Liberia Premier League instead of Indian Premier League.

He narrated that season three of the league did not end because of COVID 19, but they conducted season 4 at the Old LPRC Compound in Garnerville which had a successful end followed by season 5 which ended on February 13, 2022.

According to him, season 5 of the competition had two foreign players from Sierra Leone, but the next edition will have more international players to make the tournament more extractive.

” Today, we have new generation of players which I believe as Board Chair of Liberia National Cricket Federation will enable us have better players in the future”.

” Mr. Abbas Gbla, who was recreated from Sierra Leone to play for my team, Tally Globe is currently teaching the kids how to play the sport”.

” We want for kids to learn the fundamental aspect of the game which I think will help them develop quicker, he said”.

Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Minister Zeogar Wilson extolled the Indian community for their continues support towards cricket in Liberia.

Minister Zeogar also appreciated the champion, Monrovia Super Kings and the runner up, Royal Striker along with the 16 teams that participated in the tournament.

” I’m happy to have heard that the Liberia National Cricket Federation has engaged the ELWA Ministry for the introduction of cricket in their school, which I think is a great one”.

” Cricket is a new sport in Liberia and it will take time for us to really grab the concept, but I want for it to be extended to other schools besides ELWA; now that the MOU has been signed for the introduction of the sport in their institution”, the MYS Minister narrated.
