Monrovia, Liberia – Montserrado County District #2 Representative Sekou S. Kanneh has presented LD $5,347,590 in financial aid and other non-legislative actions in the district. Representative Kaanneh stated during the district sitting, which coincided with the District First Annual Report, that during his first year in office, his office made significant contributions in terms of intervention, donation, and proactive legislative engagements to ensure that the plight of the district and Liberians as a whole is addressed.

“Considering the financial constraints that parents are faced with, and as a way of helping them to send their kids to school this academic year, we committed ourself to provide L$5,347,590 towards the tuition payment of over 356 deserving and underprivileged students in different schools in and around our district,” according to him.

He named several of the schools for verification, including Mount Barclay Christian Academy, Ma Bendu Sherrif, Great Commission Institute, Thomas P. Fallah Institute, Richland School of Excellence, Dorcas Academy, Lombadia International, Faimo Christian, and Moursquare Mission School.

In terms of other district interventions, particularly those involving the Muslim and Christian communities, as well as community leadership and problems, Representative Kanneh stated that they have made financial contributions to several communities who have approached them for assistance, such as community elections or inaugurations, organizational projects, and schools, as a way of identifying with them through these initiatives.

According to him, during the review period, as the district’s twin father, representing the two dominant religions, his office was associated with various mosques and churches, particularly around religious holidays such as Ramadan and Christmas.

“Clearly, throughout the month of Ramadan, our office contributed over 150 bags of 25kg grains to various mosques in the district. In addition, prior of the 2024 Christmas celebration, our staff visited various churches and donated over 300,000 LRD to identify with the Christian community,” he explained.

The district #2 Representative stated that for the first time in the history of the district’s soccer team, they contributed 12 pairs of boots and some cash during the LFA tournament, thanks to their efforts and the support of some goodwill individuals in the district.

“We also donated $200,000LD as appreciation to the team for reaching the grand final, and being 1st runner up,” says Kanneh.

Furthermore, he stated that his office is affiliated with numerous orphanage facilities in the region, including The Mother Blessing Orphanage Home, Mt. Barclay, and the Ma Esther Orphanage Home, where we contributed several pairs of shoes for the Christmas season.

Representative Kanneh “We also paid visits to our disabled brothers and sisters at the Mission of Hope, donating food, toiletries, and other basic necessities. In addition to our Kind gesture, we identified with various schools and organizations both inside and outside of the district to whom we contributed money. Some of these organizations/schools are Kwado Women, New Hope Academy, Liberia Medical Association (LIMA), Sekou Ibrahim School, Sahabaa’s Institute, Johnsonville Old Timers Association, and Cabel’s Institute of Career Empowerment, among others. We also contributed one.

The event was attended by hundreds of citizens, including former Representative Jimmy Smith, members of the religious community, youngsters, and students.
