Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia Sustainable Management of Fisheries Project, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) of the Liberian government, with support from the World Bank, has started an eight-day Aquaculture Training program in Margibi and Bong Counties.

The training will be followed by a one-day “Aquaculture Development Day” at the Bella Casa Hotel on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, according to a NaFAA release dated June 23, 2024.

According to the release, the program aims to advance aquaculture and improve the technical proficiency of extension officers and technicians with the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA).

Aquaculture specialists from Malta-based AquaBioTech Group will lead the instruction.
The statement from NaFAA added that, the eight-day aquaculture training program is designed to improve Liberian aquaculture by educating important industry players and workers.

“It is also meant to guarantee that the fundamentals of aquaculture are widely known, which will improve aquaculture yields by streamlining standard procedures. A number of aquaculture cooperatives, including the Lofa County Aquaculture Cooperative, Nimba County Aquaculture Cooperative, and Bong County Aquaculture Cooperative, will send representatives to the training.”

Improvements in hatchery management, enhanced biosecurity, feed conservation ratio (FCR), and improved pond construction techniques will be among the topics discussed throughout the course.

In addition, a one-day intensive workshop on “Aquaculture Development” will take place after the eight-day training program. This workshop aims to involve stakeholders in the development of aquaculture by exchanging best practices from across Africa, providing updates on the latest developments in Liberia and other countries, facilitating connections between professionals interested in the sector, and exploring prospects for cooperation.

The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority and AquaBioTech Group, a renowned worldwide aquaculture development company from Malta, are working together to jointly host the one-day event in Liberia with the subject “Aquaculture Development Day.”

The worldwide business AquaBio Tech Group has projects and clients in more than fifty-five countries. Through its regional offices and carefully chosen partners across the globe, it is working on a range of initiatives related to fisheries, aquaculture, and the aquatic environment.

The organization works in the marine and aquatic industries primarily on innovations linked to aquaculture, as well as market research and intelligence, project feasibility evaluations, financing acquisition, project management, technology sourcing, and technical support and training.
