NEC Chairperson debunk LACC report on the institution

The National Elections Commission says at no time did any of its commissioners admitted guilty during a LACC investigative interview, as falsely stated in the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission’s latest report which indicts the NEC Chairperson for acts of corruption.

Addressing a major press conference Sunday at the Commissioner headquarters, NEC Chairperson Davidetta Brown Lanssanah said the Commission has not been served the LACC’s latest report in which it indicated as such, the electoral body cannot provide a detailed response to allegations in a report it has not seen.

Madam Brown-Lanssanah narrated that following an invitation from the LACC on November 17 of this year, the NEC appeared before the LACC with its legal counsels and submitted the requested documents along with written statements, but at no time did any of its officials make any admission of guilt as stated during the LACC’s press conference held on December 15, 2021.

The National Elections Commission chairperson states that an agency like the LACC with investigative and prosecutorial powers is obligated not to make a public statement that has the likelihood of prejudicing a criminal matter or heightening public condemnations of the target of an investigation.

The NEC Boss however assures that the commission remains focused on its critical role in the system of Government to conduct Free, Fair, and Credible elections in Liberia.

It can be recalled the LACC, through its Chairman Edward Martin held a press conference on December 15, 2021, informing the public that the LACC had completed its investigation and claimed that the National Elections Commission made certain admissions of guilt during its appearance before the LACC investigative panel.
