Monrovia, Liberia – In order to fill the vacancies left by the death of Grand Gedeh Representative-elect Erol Madison Gwion and the election of then-sitting Nimba Senator Jeremiah Koung as Liberia’s vice president, by-elections were held in Nimba and Grand Gedeh Counties.
Nya D. Twayen and Jeremiah Garwo Sokan have been proclaimed the winners of the legislative by-elections in Nimba and Grand Gedeh Counties, respectively, by the National Elections Commission (NEC).

While Sokan stood as an independent candidate for Electoral District #1 in the Grand Gedeh representative by-election, Twayen campaigned as the ruling Unity Party (UP) candidate in the Nimba senatorial by-election.
The final election results from the by-election were declared by NEC Chairperson Davidetta Browne-Lansanah on Friday, April 26, 2024. Twayen received the highest votes, 67,138 constituting 59.27 percent of valid votes, while Sokan received the highest number of votes (3,168) constituting 30.74 percent of valid votes.
