Monrovia, Liberia – The National Election Commission of Liberia has finally decleare former vice president Joseph N. Boakai as president of Liberia. Boakai who served as vice president to Liberia’s First female president, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, contested against Mr. Weah in the 2017 presidential election and lost to the CDC .
Boakai who was not detaired by less support from his former boss, former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf fought his way through against the ruling CDC. Boakai struggled with internal matters that tried to destroy the party but later gain it strength when Liberians decided to takeout the CDC government due to what they called corruption and several other reasons.
It is reported that citizens of Liberia and sympathizers all contributed their wealth through financial contributions to unseat the CDC government for the UP.
On Monday, November 20, 2023, the NEC declared the UP candidate Joseph N. Boakai winner with a vote 814,481 or 50.64% and CDC 793,914 or 49.36%.
