New Elections to be held by HoR Majority Bloc for ECOWAS Parliament Representation.

Monrovia, Liberia – On Tuesday, February 25, the dominant bloc of the 55th House of Legislature will hold fresh elections for the nation’s ECOWAS Parliament lawmakers. Liberia’s existing delegation to the regional organization will be replaced by this election.

In order to further regional integration, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, a crucial institution, provides a platform for discussion and collaboration among West African legislators. The ECOWAS Treaty’s Articles 6 and 13 established it, enabling delegates to debate and reach a consensus on issues impacting the region.

Concerns expressed about the selection procedure and compliance with ECOWAS procedures led to the decision to hold a new election. The House discussed the issue during a meeting on Thursday, February 13, and as a result, a call election was announced to replace the current members of the ECOWAS Parliament, Hon. Samuel Enders of Montserrado County, Hon. Moima Briggs-Mensah of Bong County, and Hon. Taa Wongbe of Nimba County.

Following a letter from Hon. James Kolleh (Bong County, District #2) and Hon. Johnson Williams (River Gee County, District #3) demanding the immediate removal of Liberia’s incumbent members from the ECOWAS Parliament, the decision was made to replace the current representatives.

Representative Taa Wongbe of Nimba County, one of the members who will be replaced, responded negatively to the decision. He wrote, “They can NEVER take ECOWAS until 2028,” on social media. They will not receive it even if they fall and die since they enjoy it!
