As Nigerians celebrated their nation’s 62nd anniversary of independence, the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Ambassador to Liberia, Amb. Godfrey A.E. Odudigbo, urged Nigerians, Liberians, and Sierra Leoneans to coordinate and plan for peaceful, free, fair, and transparent elections so that the outcome would meet an international standard for the maintenance of peace and the advancement of the region.

He issues a warning to all parties involved in Liberia to play by the rules in order to guarantee that the process will not only be orderly and transparent but also that all participating political parties will have an equal opportunity to exercise their right to vote. Amb. Odudigbo pointed out that Liberia and Nigeria have historical and cultural ties that continue to sour their bilateral relations. As a result, he said, the founding fathers should be honored by the residents of both countries. In order to prevent unneeded political bloodshed, the Nigerians Diploma also advises Liberians to exercise prudence when it comes to the transmission of information as voters are set to witness important elections.

Ambassador Odudigbo reaffirms the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s commitment to supporting the Liberian government in both infrastructure Development, human capacity building, and Capitol investment into the economy. He at the same time mention some of the Institutions investing in the Liberian economy, the United Bank for Africa(UBA) Guarantee Trust Bank (GT Bank) Global Bank, City Trust saving and Loan, Mutual benefits, and insurance companies amongst other.

In addition to possibly expanding service to neighboring Sierra Leone, Ambassador Odudigbo revealed that Peace Airline has intentions to resume flights from Nigeria to Liberia. Using the occasion, he told the public that the Independent Day event had been moved from October 1 to October 6, 2022, due to the birthday of the head of state of the host nation, George Weah, which fell on Nigeria’s Independence Day. The event took place at the Nigerian Embassy in Monrovia on Thursday, October 6, 2022.

Nigeria became independent from the United Kingdom on October 1, 1960.
