Monrovia, Liberia – The National Election Commission’s chair, Davietta Brown Lassanah, has released the initial findings of the second phase of the biometric voter registration. Beginning on April 20 and concluding on May 11, 2023, the National Election Commission conducted the BVR exercise in nine counties.
Chairperson Lassanah addressed the media at the NEC headquarters in Monrovia on Thursday, May 25, 2023, and revealed that the preliminary results from the final nine Counties totaled 1,033,724 with Bong, Lofa, and Nimba having the highest totals.
Counties including Bong 237,463, Grand Geded 64,061, Grand Kru 42,729, Lofa 177,892, and Maryland 69,034 were a part of the second phase. Additionally, among the nine counties are Nimba (308,421), River Gee (37,912), RiverCess (40,201), and Sinoe (56,011). Madam Lsannah added that the numbers could alter after the process is over.
The preliminary findings for the 15 counties will be made public in the coming days, the chairperson Brown Lasanah noted. Exhibition of the provisional Registration Roll will start on June 12th. She stated that candidate nominations will open on June 14 and expire on July 14, 2023. She did, however, add that they are still attempting to get the whole amount of money fixed for the 2023 elections with the Liberian government.
