Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Chamber of Commerce (LCC) and the National Identification Registry (NIR) have officially launched a dedicated National ID Enrollment Center at the Chamber’s Capitol Hill headquarters, marking a major step in speeding up the business community’s access to national identification services.
The new facility, which goes into operation is intended to facilitate the completion of the national ID registration requirement for private sector stakeholders, such as Chamber members, their staff, and other business players. All citizens and foreign nationals, including newborns, must register their national identification cards.
The ID card, which requires the presentation of legitimate residency permits or passports, costs US$20 for foreigners and US$5 for Liberian natives, according to the NIR. In order to maximize ease and coverage, the Chamber is also collaborating with the NIR to set up on-site registration for businesses with a big workforce in an attempt to address the unique requirements of the business sector.
During the weekend’s official launch ceremony, LCC President Mr. O. Natty B. Davis praised the effort as a crucial step in easing the bureaucratic constraints faced by Liberian companies. “This enrollment center is part of our mission to bring essential services closer to our members and remove barriers for businesses,” Mr. Davis stated. “It illustrates our dedication to workable solutions that improve the business environment.”
That view was mirrored by NIR Executive Director Hon. Andrew Peters, who emphasized the value of teamwork in the accomplishment of national initiatives. Peters said, “We’re happy to collaborate with the Chamber to make sure that nobody is left behind in the national identification process. These kinds of initiatives guarantee increased efficiency and inclusivity in both the public and private sectors.”
It is anticipated that the new center would act as a template for upcoming public-private collaborations meant to enhance Liberia’s service delivery.
