    NMSAL Calls on Lawmakers to pass an inclusive Policy to benefit Liberians

    Monrovia, Liberia – The National Muslim Students Association of Liberia is urging newly elected lawmakers , who are Muslims to utilize the opportunity to engage with other colleagues in order to establishment what they termed as inclusive policy that will benefit all Liberians irrespective of their religions or ethnicity .

    Some of the newly elected lawmakers who are Muslims are Amara Konneh, Senator-elect Gbarpolu County; Musa Bility,  District Four, Nimba County and Sekou Kenneth,  District Two , Montserrado County. Others are Rukie Barry,  District One Montserrado County; Bintu Massaley, , District One Grand Cape Mount County and Mustapha Warity District Three , Gbapolu  County. The rest are Muka Kamara , District 14, Montserrado County Mohamed Dosii, District Two Grand Cape Mount County. 

    The National Muslim Students Association of Liberia’s Assistant Secretary General warned politicians to stop exploiting the Muslim community for their political and selfish gains.

    He claims that some of their leaders have tried in the past to use the Muslim community for their own political advantage, ignoring the larger goals and concerns of the Muslim populace.

    “We wish to remind everyone that NAMSAL has been consistent at the forefront of  championing the rights and interests of Muslims in Liberia.” 

    The statement, signed by Husaina Ali Krayee, Secretary General, of NAMSAL and approved by Abraham Dorley, the President , made it clear that in the light of the upcoming presidential run-off elections, the organization urged the National Elections Commission to ensure a peaceful run-off and transparent process.

    According to Swaray, several Muslim individuals were turned down during the voter registration exercuse due to their last names and the fact that they wore the hijab. In pursuit of their goals, he said, they are steadfast in their commitment to guaranteeing equity, justice, and equal chances for every Muslim.

    The National Muslim Students Association of Liberia continue that the NMSAL has consistently stressed that conducting free, fair, and credible elections is essential to maintaining the country’s precarious peace and that any irregularities should be thoroughly investigated to prevent any potential disruption of the peace.

    Meanwhile, Swaray has  announced his intension to launch an intensive campaign with the slogan: “Don’t Sit Home on Elections Day, Liberia Depends On You.” According to Sekou Swaray, the campaign is aimed at engaging , educating and encouraging every Liberian citizens to actively participate in the forthcoming run-off presidential elections. 

    “We firmly believe that the collective voice of every individual can pave the way for a prosperous and united Liberia.”

    Sekou Swaray pleaded with all citizens to uphold their commitment to democracy, vigilance, and decency at this pivotal time. He said, “Let’s work together to create an atmosphere that will support progress, tolerance, and understanding amongst people.”
