Over 200 scientists are shortly expected to converge at the ministerial complex in Congo Town for a two-day national conference on science organized by the National Public Health Institute of Liberia and partners.

The Health Strengthening Advisor at the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, Paul Kennedy, disclosed that the conference named, in honor of Dr. Emmet Dennis, will create a platform for scientists to showcase their scientific works.

Mr. Kennedy made the disclosure during the media engagement organized by the National Public Health Institute of Liberia in Congo Town during the weekend.

Also speaking, the epidemiologist at the African Field Epidemiologist Network, Lily Sanvee-Blebo, said the conference has already received over 75 scientific works that will show through power point presentation. According to her, the conference, which is under the theme: “Maintaining Public Health During Pandemic,” is encouraging women to form part by forwarding their works.

Madam Sanvee-Blebo added that the organizing committee is open to accepting scientific works from foreigners who will like their work to be displayed in Liberia. According to her, this conference is the third since the establishment of the Emmet Dennis National Scientific Conference a few years ago.

As for Information and Technical Specialist at the African Epidemiology Networks, Godwin Akpan, said some of the scientists will do their presentation through zoom because not everybody will have the chance to come to the conference.

He is therefore requesting all who will like to participate in the conference by zoom should be sending their works now so as the preparation before the time. Akpan added that the conference will be divided into groups and each will be given a topic in order to advance science in Liberia.

This is the third scientific conference to be organized by the National Public Health Institute of Liberia but due to the covid-19 scientists couldn’t converge. But, with necessary mechanisms in place to combat the spread of covid-19, there is a need to converge so as they determine the levels of research Liberians are making in the science.
