Monrovia, Liberia – The public has been notified by the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) that the NPHIL regularly and routinely performs laboratory testing and surveillance for Viral Hemorrhagic Fever Pathogens (VHF), which include the Marburg and Ebola viruses.
According to NPHIL, every specimen that has been received and examined using the molecular PCR method at the organization’s National Reference Laboratory has so far shown “negative” results for Marburg and Ebola.
According to the NPHIL report, the negative test result eliminates all of the possible VHF infections in the biological material in question. “In this regard, the public is hereby informed that the NPHIL cannot confirm any suspected VHF case in Liberia as of today, 10th September 2025.”
The NPHIL admonishes the general public and scientific community to remain calm and not to panic.
NPHIL urges the public to continue following all public health initiatives put in place by the institution as the country’s disease monitoring system works to keep the country disease-free.
To verify any information about the Viral Hemorrhagic Fever Pathogens (VHF), NPHIL is advising the public and media to contact the National Public Health Institute of Liberia directly. This is because, as mandated by law as the nation’s response entity to public health hazards, NPHIL is now addressing concurrent epidemics of measles, mpox, and Lassa.
