Ahead of the general and presidential elections in 2023, one Liberian was killed at the National Patriotic Party’s (NPP) recently concluded primary. It has been verified by Chief Cyril Allen, one of the NPP’s founding members, he added that Vice President Jewel H. Taylor of Liberia paid county chairpersons USD$600 each to choose her as the party’s standard bearer. Mr. Allen said the money was intended to have all county chairs sign a resolution to back her power.
Although the NPP primary ended with the murder of one member due to violence, the vice president of Liberia is anticipated to be listed as President George M. Weah’s running mate on the ballot. A group led by Mark Kassin a strong Stewart of the party knocked down the glass door to the hall and demanded that James Biney an opposing leader and a member of the NPP, leave the hall which sparked major face-to-face fighting among the members, ensuring the violence.
The National Patriotic Party has been divided into two sections as a result of the violence. James Biney and Jewel Howard Taylor fashions. Madam Jewel Howard Taylor cautioned aggrieved participants to seek legal remedy at any civil Law court or at the Temple of Justice in a statement to journalists minutes after the violence erupted. A serious conflict has arisen between NPP participants and supporters as a result of Mad. Taylor’s remarks.
While the Liberian vice president faction runs its operations from the Tubman Boulevard neighborhood near the German Embassy in Monrovia, James Biney’s NPP faction is currently based in the Tarry Town Community. The NPP Convention was held at Paynesville Town Hall on Friday, October 7, 2022.
