AS 1,000 NPP MEMBERS SIGN A NEW RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING JAMES BINEY CHAIRMANSHIP

Monrovia, Liberia – The former ruling National Patriotic Party is embroiled in intense internal strife as more than 1,000 NPP members sign a fresh resolution endorsing James Biney as the party’s rightful chairman.

Sen. Biney of Maryland was recently dismissed from the NPP by the faction loyal to Vice presidency Jewel Howard Taylor after the embattled party chairman decided to back Joseph Boakai’s campaign for the presidency.

However, the sizable NPP partisans said in a resolution that Biney was the sole Chairman of the party who had been legitimately elected; as a result, he could not be ousted in an illegal manner.

According to the resolution, the executive committee headed by Jewel Howard Taylor reportedly carried out the “so-called expulsion” without cause. The embattled Chairman James Biney said in a Monday, June 26, 2023 interview with a local radio station in Monrovia that some party members have over the years pledged their support to other political parties, including Vice President Jowel Howard Taylor and former Bong County District #3 Representative George Sylvester Mulbah.

According to Chairman Biney, during the 2005 presidential and legislative elections, VP Taylor supported former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf while Representative Mulbah supported former Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai in 2017, as such he has the same right to support his candidate despite their collaboration.

The Maryland county senator argued that because every partisan is treated equally under the NPP constitution, he cannot be stopped from endorsing a candidate of his choice. He claimed that the failure of the current coalition for Democratic Change, which is in power, inspired him to support a particular candidate.

The embattled chairman claimed the CDC government has failed miserably in running the affairs of the state. He identified, the lack of the CDC government to bring in foreign direct investment over the past five years and its inability to uphold its framework documents (PAPD). He asserted that those attempting to have him removed want the job of VP Taylor.

In a related development, Wadiau Massoud, the head of the NPP in Grand Bassa County, resigned due to internal disputes within the party. He claimed that his choice was in accordance with the constitution and the party bylaws, which support the ability to resign from the party and its associated processes.

Massoud vowed to reveal within few days his upcoming political endeavor. Following James Biney’s expulsion from the party by the faction loyal to Jewel Howard-Taylor, some party members accepted Biney as the legitimate party’s chair.
