The president of the National Teachers Association of Liberia (NTAL) Madam Mary Nyumah has outlined a series of achievements made since her excellency as president of the association ahead of the pending NTAL Convention later this year.
She said her Leadership has completed the construction of the NTAL 12th Head Quarters, Medical insurance for teachers across the country, and provided Motorcycles and Laptop computers for all presidents in the fifteen counties to enhance their work. She also mention the establishment of a credit Union as to allow teachers to take loans in order to settled some financial obligations.
The NTAL boss, expressed Joy for the level of improvement in the teaching profession; she noted that Universities graduates exspecially those specialized in education are expressing interest in the teaching field some thing she described as laudable.
She at the same time called on the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Education to increase teachers salaries and pay teachers according to their qualifications by doing such will improved the educational sector she noted.
The Leadership of the NTAL is also calling on the government to ensure that teachers who have been volunteering at various public Institutions across the country name be enlisted on civil servant pay roll based on the time of volunteerism.
The NTAL boss, stressed that there are some teachers teaching in the classroom who does not have the requisite credentials to such; she called on schools Administrators to immediately get them out of the system.
“The teaching profession is a noble profession as such, there should be transparency in the system anyone who have interest in the teaching field should acquired the requisite training”.
She noted that the NTAL is not a policy making entity but rather an advocacy group that seek the warefare of teachers across the country.
The NTAL was established Mach 10, 1938 by legislation and the association have little over eleven thousand active members in the fifteen counties, but majority are unable to pay dues for the growth and development of the institution some thing that the Leadership needs to take into consideration.
Members of the NTAL are expected to converge in Ganta City Nimba County early October to elected new breed of leadership to steer the affairs of the association as incunbent president Madam Mary Nyumah vow to retain her position as president for her 2nd term as she promised to complete unfinished projects when elected.
