In observance of International Women’s Day, President George Weah reassures women of his fullest support.

President George Weah on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, led an array of women across Liberia to celebrate International Women’s day.

International Women’s day is celebrated on March 8 of each year to recognize the role or importance of women in every society.

The celebration which began with a grand parade from Boulevard junction to Ministerial Complex in Congo was held under the global theme: “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”, while the national theme says: “Breaking the Barriers, Setting the stage for Gender Equality.

President Weah speaking at the program said women can make the change they are constantly yearning once they adopt the positive minds.

The former soccer Icon boosted Liberian women who are employed by his government making a significant impact in their various positions.

” As Feminist in Chief, I will continue to support women to challenge their male counterparts for public offices in any given situation. There are a lot of women I know that are making a great impact in our society, President Weah said”.

” For example, the Acting Public Works Minister, Ruth Coker Collins, General Services Agency Director, Madam Mary Broh, National Elections Commission, Davidetta Brown Lassana, Minister of Gender for Children and Social Protection, Willeminta Tarr, and hosts of other women, President Weah highlighted”

The Liberian leader also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to fighting sexual and gender-based violence.

Mr. George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia

President Weah indicated that the task force has been established to fight against the issues of sexual and gender-based violence, but the family of the raped victims and the community will have to help the government in champing the issues.

“I want for us to be naming and shaming those involved in these wicked habits, President Weah said”.

” Most of the raped cases are committed by immediate family members which I want for them to stop compromising those and begin shaming the perpetrators involved, the President explained”.

President Weah however, said former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as the first female president of Liberia did extremely well doing her time of the presidency while naming the Ministerial Complex in honor of her as a means of recognizing her legacy.

” In observance of International Women’s day, I want to state this clear that where this celebration is taking place was constructed by the hard work of a female and I am very pleased in saying this because I served as Peace Ambassador as opposition at the time. And to remember her legacy, this Ministerial Complex is now called Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex, President Weah noted”.
