OF PREACHING DIVISIVE TRIBAL POLITICS
Monrovia, Liberia – The opposition Unity Party demands an explanation from Chief Zanzan Kawor for his management of the Council of Chiefs and Elders after accusing this year’s Independence Day orator of promoting divisive ethnic politics.
The opposition Unity Party disapproved of the fact that President Weah received excessive acclaim from this year’s Independence Day orator rather than delivering a speech that was true to the country’s values.
Amos Tweh, the secretary general of the UP, described it as regrettable that the traditional council head praised President Weah while promoting tribal politics rather than addressing the nation’s pressing problems.
He added that Chief Zoe, Zanzar Kawor has done nothing to further the traditional teachings and called on Chief Zanzar Kawor to answer for his stewardship since taking over the council of Chiefs and Elders’ issues.
During his oration, the leader of Liberia’s Chiefs and Elders Council accused the Americo Liberians of not upholding the principles of good governance, but they brought with them when they immigrated to Liberia from the western world.
The underdevelopment of Liberia, he claimed, was caused by previous governments’ poor leadership, and he accused the country’s minority elite of excluding its native population.
