“Peace Is A Duty We Must Live By,” President Bio Caution ECOWAS Countries.

Monrovia, Liberia – The president of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, has cautioned other West African leaders to pledge to peace and stability by avoiding the mistakes of the past at Liberia’s 178th Independence Day celebration.

“Stability and peace are essential to our countries. Nothing can flourish without it. For this reason, I suggest that tranquility comes at the cost of constant watchfulness. Don’t be afraid. Not suspicion. However, a solemn vow to never make the same errors twice, to never let hatred blossom where understanding ought to blossom, and to never take the brittle gift of stability for granted,” he stated.

President Bio stressed that this kind of solidarity should be constantly demonstrated in initiatives to promote regional development, not just during emergencies. He elaborated on the 178th Independence theme, saying that it takes courage to heal the past and build the future rather than slogans or agreements.

He emphasized the necessity of unity among ECOWAS member nations, especially in promoting peace and sustainable progress, while acknowledging that differences and failures are unavoidable. According to President Bio, democracy where all opinions are valued, disagreements do not turn into hostility, and authority is viewed as a trust rather than a prize should be a part of the healing process.

“We must always remember: democracy cannot thrive without peace. And peace cannot last where democracy is hollow,” he added.

President Bio however commended president Boakai for a successful Governments and for his commitment to democracy.
