PPS Fofana “Boakai Traveled for National Interest, Not Pleasure”

Capitol Hill, Monrovia – Liberia presidential press secretary, Atty. Kula N. Fofana, has rejected growing criticism of President Joseph N. Boakai’s frequent international travels, claiming that they are part of a larger diplomatic endeavor to promote Liberia abroad rather than being undertaken for personal enjoyment.

On Friday, November 7, 2025, at the regular press briefing at the Executive Mansion, Atty. Fofana stated that people who doubt the objectives and results of the President’s trips are “regular critics” who frequently fail to recognize the strategic advantages of these interactions.

“Presidents do not return from their travels with large sums of money to give to the people, Critics will never go away.  Tthe trips are meant to strengthen ties, attract investment, and raise Liberia’s profile internationally,” she said.

According to the press secretary, “When you become President, it becomes imperative to introduce your agenda to the world and seek support for it. President Boakai’s travels are essential to promoting his administration’s development goal. The President doesn’t travel for leisure or sightseeing, and he most surely doesn’t attend to football games, but rather to engage with partners.”

She urged Liberians to be patient as the results of such interactions develop over time, noting that diplomacy and foreign lobbying continue to be essential instruments for national advancement. Atty. Fofana reassured the public that the President’s travels are motivated by transparency, national interest, and the goal of securing concrete advantages for Liberia’s future.
