Pres. Boakai Appoints New NaFAA Director General.

Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai named J. Cyrus Saygbe, Sr. as the new Acting Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) one month after Emma Metieh Glassco was suspended as the agency’s director general. On February 14, 2025, President Boakai suspended Emma Metieh Glassco, the Director-General of NaFAA, due to claims of administrative and financial inefficiency.

The decision, announced Thursday by Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, follows recommendations from NaFAA’s Board and concerns raised by the Office of the Ombudsman over Glassco’s leadership style.

According to Minister Piah, Glassco is alleged to have broken the laws governing NaFAA, which is why the President acted to ensure accountability and institutional integrity. He claimed that the President’s decision was allegedly influenced by concerns about her “insultive” style of leadership. Glassco is being requested to fully participate with an inquiry of the claims that is now underway.
