Monrovia, Liberia – As President Joseph N. Boakai toured the Liberia Broadcasting System’s (LBS) state-of-the-art continuing building project for the new radio and television facility in Paynesville, he poked fun of his detractors. After the tour, on June 17, 2025, Boakai told reporters, “We’re moving this country forward; the race car is on the race track.”

“Tell people that the race car is now on the racetrack and we’re moving this country forward if they used to ask me what I could do as President that I couldn’t do as Vice President,” said President Boakai.

“The government is here to deliver progress, not to manage decline,” he said, citing the current project as evidence that Liberia is becoming stronger, better, and more interconnected than ever.

The Government of the People’s Republic of China is generously supporting the modernization initiative, which is part of Liberia’s endeavor to improve state media services, civic education, and public communication.

During a supervised tour of the construction site, President Boakai and LBS Director General Eugene L. Fahngon examined the new structures and were given thorough briefings on the project’s scale, schedule, and strategic importance. President Boakai also underlined how urgent it is to restore and update important national institutions, particularly those that act as a bridge between the Liberian people and the government.

For his part, LBS Director General Eugene L. Fahngon emphasized that the initiative marks a historic turning point for LBS and commended the President for his steadfast support and clear vision for the national media organization.

Mr. Fahngon said, “LBS is on a firm path to becoming a fully modernized, professional media institution for the first time in decades. With this degree of leadership and international assistance, we will serve the Liberian people with pride and excellence,” he added.

China’s commitment to Liberia’s development was reiterated by Ambassador Yin Chengwu, the Chinese ambassador to Liberia, who was also in attendance. Strong media organizations are crucial for promoting national discourse, openness, and understanding, he emphasized.

According to Ambassador Yin, the People’s Republic of China is honored to accompany the Liberian government and people on this historic journey. He reminded everyone that the goal of this endeavor is to provide a country with the means to educate its people, tell its own story, and bolster democratic governance it is not only about constructing structures.

Cutting-edge studios, digital transmission equipment, journalistic facilities, administrative offices, and training areas are all part of the LBS modernization project, which is being sponsored by China. It is anticipated that the continuing initiative would greatly increase the reach, quality, and coverage of LBS services both domestically and abroad.

President Boakai’s “ARREST” Agenda, which places a high priority on roads, agriculture, rule of law, education, sanitation, and tourism, is exactly where the project fits in.

Through dependable and competent broadcasting, the LBS project serves as a crucial foundation under the Education and Rule of Law components, guaranteeing that citizens are educated, involved, and empowered.

For many years, public service announcements, cultural preservation, information sharing, and democratic participation have all taken place on the Liberia Broadcasting System. With the recent improvements and revitalized political will, LBS is ready to take back its proper position as the Liberian people’s voice.
