Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai has characterized the 68th Armed Forces Day as a day of reflection on the remarkable accomplishments of the military personnel, stating that their steadfast dedication and patriotism have been the cornerstone of the nation’s defense.

Speaking during the 68th Armed Forces Day Celebration on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the BTC Barracks in Monrovia, President Boakai said, the nation’s peace and stability are a result of the men and women in the armed forces’ unwavering efforts.

“The celebration is intended to honor and celebrate the bravery, dedication, and sacrifice of the men and women in armed.”

“We must recognize the difficulties facing our Armed Forces as we commemorate this important day. Significant challenges have been presented by problems like poor housing, which has led to overpopulation in the military barracks already in place, and insufficient funding for welfare, training, recruiting, and other urgent needs,” he continued.

The Liberian leader explained that resolving the AFL’s issues is essential to the Forces’ ongoing power, efficacy, and readiness. adding that on February 11, 2024, his government and the armed were faced with many challenges.

President Boakai revealed that his government was determined to put in endless effort to enhance the resources, training, and living circumstances for military troops.

He noted that his administration is looking into a number of options to make sure the AFL has the tools and resources it needs to fulfill the vital role that men and women in the armed forces must perform.

Amb. Boakai clarified that in order to alleviate the overcrowding at the Edward Binyah Kesselly and other operational barracks, the government has started and will continue renovating the nation’s military barracks.

“Additionally, while efforts are being made to renovate the Todee Military Barracks and restore it to its pre-war status, I am instructing the Minister of Defense to partner with relevant and line entities to assess military facilities in Harper, Maryland County, Sanniquelle, Nimba County and in Tubmanburg, Bomi County to begin renovation of those barracks.”

President Boakai also praised the collaborations and assistance from foreign friends, which he said had been crucial in boosting the Armed Forces’ capabilities.

He pointed out that in order to overcome obstacles and further the national defense program, cooperative efforts and pooled resources would remain essential.

“I want to express my sincere thanks to the brave men and women who serve in Liberia’s Armed Forces. We are all inspired by your courage and commitment,” President Boakai said.

As they monitor the borders, defend the airways, and secure the waterways, the President assured the men and women in uniform that the nation is behind them in support and solidarity.

He called on Liberians to never forget the sacrifices made by those who served before them and to commemorate their memory by upholding the principles of patriotism, courage, and honesty.

According to President Boakai, Liberia will be on track to develop stronger, more resilient Armed Forces that will never waver in their responsibility to protect the nation’s territory and future if citizens start to recognize the sacrifices made by the armed forces.
