Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia’s President and Chief Patron of Sports, Joseph N. Boakai, has stated that the 2025 National County Sports Meet (NCSM) will promote national healing, peace, and togetherness across the country. President Boakai made the speech on Sunday, January 12, 2025, in Grand Cape Mount County, when he formally launched the 2025 NCSM, the nation’s greatest athletic event with the theme “Inclusive Development through Sports.”
According to him, inclusion is the foundation of nation-building, and this year’s theme demonstrates the government’s unshakable dedication to reconciliation, togetherness, and growth. President Boakai reminded Cape Mount residents and sports enthusiasts that the National County Sports Meet is more than just a competition; it is a celebration of our common goals, a symbol of our resilience, and a testament to the transformative power of sports.
He praised key players including as the National Legislature, traditional and community leaders, media practitioners, and event organizers for their combined efforts to keep the County Meet as Liberia’s most beloved national event. Speaking to the athletes, the President sent a sincere message of encouragement, challenging them to demonstrate discipline, patriotism, and accountability.
“As you go to the fields, gymnasiums, and tracks, know that the nation is rooting for you. Compete aggressively, but let your sportsmanship remind us all that this tournament is about togetherness, not division,” he said.
The President also emphasized the larger importance of sports as a catalyst for national development. “Sports are no longer merely a recreational activity; they are an important driver of social cohesion, youth empowerment, long-term peace, and economic progress. It brings us together in moments of victory and teaches us the importance of endurance in times of adversity.”
The Liberian leader emphasized the necessity of establishing reconciliation, friendship, and national unity. The event exemplifies patriotism and highlights the nation’s rich cultural and sporting legacy. Male soccer and female kickball contests featuring sides from the 15 counties are popular in the yearly competition.
