Monrovia, Liberia – Ethiopian Airlines has formally started operating in Liberia again after more than ten years away. A major turning point in the nation’s aviation history was reached on Saturday, November 30, 2024, when the Boeing 787-8 plane carrying 261 passengers from Addis Ababa touched down at the Roberts International Airport.
Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday are the three days a week Ethiopian Airlines will touch the Liberian soul according to the business aggrement.
By offering passengers a smooth link to the rest of the world via its vast worldwide network, the airline hopes to contribute to Liberia’s socioeconomic development.
President Joseph N. Boakai referred to the restart of the Ethiopian flight as a “reopening of air route” in Liberia during the opening ceremony held at the Roberts International Airport in Lower Margibi County.
“After many years and decades, Ethiopian Airlines’ entry in Liberia signifies much more than just the resumption of the aviation route. It is a potent representation of the friendship, mutual respect, and shared African ancestry between the two nations.”
He maintained that the airlines’ reopening will assist Liberia’s aviation sector while also demonstrating the two nations’ friendliness.
When Ethiopian Airlines resumes operations, the two countries will share their travel histories, resiliency, and traditions, according to the Liberian leader.
The Liberian Leader added that the airlines’ return was evidence of Liberia’s confidence and security during his government.
He clarified that the direct flight from Ethiopia to Liberia will create opportunities for trade and tourism as well as for fostering collaboration in fields like culture and education.
According to President Boakai, the flight will serve as a link for deeper commerce, economic cooperation, and cooperation between the two nations.
Ethiopian Airlines Chief Commercial Officer Lemma Yadecha, for his part, stated that the airline has a long history with Monrovia, having established its first flight service to the city in November 1966. Since then, Ethiopian has established a legacy founded on trust, dependability, and the close ties between the two countries.
Yadecha explained, “This collaborative relationship, in both good and difficult times, continues to fuel our ambition to serve Monrovia and the region.”
According to Ethiopian Airlines’ chief commercial officer, the airline’s goal is to link passengers to a wide range of international locations, noting that Ethiopia and Liberia have a special relationship.
