Careyburg, Montserrado County – President Joseph N. Boakai and other government representatives recently visited the US$26 million “Chicken Poultry” project in Careyburg, rural Montserrado County, on Friday, April 2, 2025.
When the project is finished, Liberia will be able to become a regional exporter while reducing its reliance on imported eggs.
Following the trip, Att. Kula Fofana, Liberia’s Presidential Press Secretary, referred to the US$26 million chicken project as the Liberia Poultry Project and said that agriculture was a major focus of the government’s ARREST Agenda.
The project’s goal, she said, is to make sure Liberia ceases importing chicken or eggs from other nations.
The initial phase of this project is currently ongoing. This project was signed by the Liberian government and a few partners. She said, “This project will also create job opportunities in the sector.”
Over 2,000 eggs would be produced every day, according to Atty. Fofana, who also mentioned that it will also be known as an egg factory.
She said that the project is one way the President wants to empower youth and the society as a whole. The Liberian government obtained a loan in order to finance this project, which is entirely Liberian owned.
Kula said, “The Liberian government will engage different partners to get loans, but these loans came from multiple sources,” in response to a question concerning the loan.
According to Liberia’s Presidential Press Secretary, the government is working with the “Agriculture Turnkey Project” to carry out the project, and Liberians make up the workforce and contractors.
Madam Fofana declined to comment on how long the project will take, but she did say that it is a continuing endeavor with several stages.
