Monrovia, Liberia – A number of Korean investors have shown interest in visiting Liberia to make investments in various sectors including technical transfer, according to President Joseph N. Boakai.
Speaking with reporters after returning from the Korea-Africa Summit in Seoul, South Korea over the weekend, the president stated that he did not attend the summit for any particular purpose other than to attend the investment forum, where he and his delegates met a number of investors who expressed interest in visiting Liberia to make investments.
He stated that scholarships for Liberians to study in Korea and for Koreans to visit Liberia for commercial purposes are among the advantages of the investment.
“With the exception of the investment forum, where we met investors, many of whom are interested in coming to Liberia to invest in many areas with technical transfer, and with the issue of scholarships that will help Liberians go to Korea and learn and Korean coming here to do business, we did not go to Korea to have a specific meeting.”
The first-ever Korea-Africa Summit, according to President Boakai, brought together the two nations on the same continent to discuss how they can cooperate and address a variety of global concerns, as well as invest and boost confidence in Africa and Korea by applying their technical know-how.
The Liberian leader noted that the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) had received commendation from the Republic of South Korea, under the leadership of Yool Suk Yeol, for their logistical assistance of the Korean Military.
He claimed that during a meeting with President Yeol, he (the president of Korea) committed his support to the ARESST Agenda.
“The Koreans are extremely aware of the past events involving them and Liberia.”
