Abuja, Nigeria – President Joseph N. Boakai has reiterated the nation’s commitment to the mission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), saying, Liberia’s commitment will continue to strengthen regional ties.
On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, the President signed the 50th Anniversary Card and pledged his commitment to regional integration among other African leaders at the 50th Anniversary of ECOWAS in Nigeria.
The event commemorates fifty years of regional collaboration, economic integration, peacekeeping, democratic values promotion, and infrastructure development initiatives that have made a substantial contribution to West Africa’s stability and prosperity.
The governor, deputy governor, and cabinet of Lagos State, the staff of the Liberian Embassy, headed by Ambassador Robert Y. Lormia, II, the charge d’affaires, and other high-ranking Nigerian government officials and ECOWAS representatives welcomed President Boakai when he arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria.
As they commemorate 50 years of regional collaboration, President Boakai said, Liberia is looking forward to strengthening its shared ambition to create a resilient, prosperous, and peaceful West Africa.
President Boakai had high-level talks with other leaders of state and government while in Nigeria in order to reinforce regional unity, look into fresh opportunities for economic expansion, and tackle persistent issues including security, climate change, and human development.
The Liberian leader’s participation demonstrated the nation’s continued dedication to ECOWAS’s principles and its efforts to promote stability, peace, and sustainable development throughout West Africa.
The 50th anniversary of ECOWAS is an important reminder of the strides made and the ongoing work needed to overcome regional obstacles. Liberia is excited to contribute to the promising future of the continent and is still delighted to be an active participant in these initiatives.
