To Participate in AU 38th Summit.
Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is set leave Liberia today, February 13, to travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Assembly, scheduled for February 14–16, 2025.
The summit will bring together heads of state and government from all around the continent to discuss urgent challenges impacting Africa and to determine policy priorities for the next year.
The subject of this year’s summit is “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations.”
In keeping with Liberia’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities and economic growth, President Boakai is anticipated to participate in talks centered on sustainable financing mechanisms for high-quality education and skills development in Africa, according to a release from the Executive Mansion.
A delegation of high-ranking government officials, including Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of State Without Portfolio Mamaka Bility, and Economic Advisor Morley Kamara, will accompany the Liberian leader, the release added.
Other members of the delegation include Grand Bassa County Senator Gbehzohngar M. Findley, and Chairman on Executive, House of Representatives Honorable Sekou Kanneh, who will participate in various high-level meetings and side events during the Summit.
The Mansion said that this is President Boakai’s first time attending an AU summit since taking office in January 2024 and that his attendance highlights Liberia’s commitment to actively participating in continental affairs and working with other African countries to address common issues and advance sustainable development.
