Monrovia, Liberia – President George Manneh Weah has left the country for London, the United Kingdom (UK). President Weah departed Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the invitation of the Government of the United Kingdom. According to the Executive Mansion, the Liberian Leader will join other world leaders for the historic coronation of King Charles III on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Westminister Abbey in London.
The coronation is a religious ceremony where the king makes pledges to both God and the nation, symbolically uniting the monarchy, the church, and the state.
While the President is away, the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, G. Wesseh Blamoh will act as chair of the Cabinet in close consultation with the Vice President and via telephone contact with the President.
According to theguardian, King Charles was born at Buckingham Palace on 14 November 1948 at 9.14pm, by caesarean section, after a 30-hour labour. His birth was the first of a senior member of the royal family not to be attended by a senior politician – to ensure that the newborn was a genuine descendant of the monarch – since the 17th century.
At his christening, Charles was doused with water from the River Jordan. In 2021, when Charles visited the supposed site of Jesus’s baptism on the banks of the river, he was given vials of the water for use in future royal christenings. When Charles was one, the Queen and Prince Philip spent Christmas in Malta, where Philip was stationed with the Royal Navy. Charles stayed with his grandparents at Sandringham; his parents missed his first steps and his first teeth.
Seventy-one years ago, when his grandfather died and his mother became queen, Charles became heir apparent at the age of three. He held that title for 70 years – longer than anyone else.
