    Pres. Weah Launches Free Marine Life Jackets for Fisher Folks across Liberia

    Monrovia – President George Weah has officially Launched Free Marine Life Jackets for all Fisher folks across Liberia with the aim of minimizing human casualty at sea. The Life Jackets will be distributed to Fishermen operating in the nine coastal counties in the country.

    Speaking at the launching ceremony on Friday, January 20, 2023, in Monrovia, the Liberian leader declared that his administration still places a high priority on rescuing the lives of fishermen at sea. He added that his government has a duty to safeguard the lives of the nation’s fishermen. The Liberian President, however, commanded recipients to use the life jackets as intended. He claimed that sea fishing is one of the riskiest jobs in the entire globe, therefore the CDC government’s initiative is significant. Mr. Weah mentioned that the fishing industry in Liberia is a critical sector despite it contributing to the growth of the economy.

    Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority Emma Metieh Glassco, speaking at the event recalled President Weah’s significant contributions to the nation’s fisherman. According to Madam Glassco, President Weah’s CDC administration has created a favorable atmosphere for fishers’ folks in Liberia.

    The NFAA Boss use the opportunity to inform the public that since 2019 to 2022, the Institution has recorded over 209 deaths at sea with 2019 recording the higher number of accidents due to lack of Life Jackets.

    The life jackets will be supplied in nine coastal counties, including Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Grand Cape Mount, Sinoe, Maryland, Bomi, Margibi, Rivercess, and Grand Kru. She however promised to work in the interest of the country and it people.
