In an effort to eradicate corruption in the country, President George Weah promised to support the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) and the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) in the new budget. According to the Liberian Chief Executive, the fight against corruption and financial crimes remain Paramount in the CDC Administration. He applauded the Legislature for the smooth passage of the bills seeking to strengthen Integrity Institutions in the country.

The President highlighted the 2021 Anti-Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, Preventive Measures, and Proceeds of Crime Act, as well as the Financial Intelligence Agency Act and the Amended Central Bank of Liberia Act. Along with the Amended and Restated Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission Act, he also announced the new Internal Audit Agency Act. The Liberian Leader emphasized in his address to the nation on Monday, January 30, 2023, that these Laws will improve the country’s anti-corruption institutions and lessen the vices connected to corruption and financial crimes. It would further strengthen the financial system, bring it into compliance with international best practices, and ensure secure financial transactions in support of monetary and fiscal policies, he said.

The Liberian Leader pleaded with members of the Legislature for the ratification of several agreements with International partners to provide development financing in support of the budget and Infrastructure needs of the country. Commenting on the Dual Citizenship Bill, President George Weah said, it was one of the most significant achievements under his stewardship nothing that it is in support of national unity. The passage of the Dual Citizenship Bill last year, which was the year of the Bi-centennial was the normal significance of rights to our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora that can not be overemphasized.

“It was intended to create an enabling environment for families residing in the Diaspora to come home and join us in the noble and patriotic task of nation-building so that we all can continue to enjoy our sweet and Glorious land of Liberty which was given to Liberians by God’s command.”
