Sinkor, Monrovia – President George Weah has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to respecting the democratic values that guide the country while promising that his administration will make sure that elections take place in a free, fair, transparent, credible, and peaceful manner.
The Liberian Leader also gave the people of Liberia his word that the approaching elections will be a brilliant example of democracy in action.
The Liberian executive noted that the Farmington declaration, which was recently signed by Party executives, is more than just a piece of paper; noting that it holds the values of democracy, peace, and inclusivity. He added that by signing the declaration, ”we made a commitment to the Liberian people to eliminate violence from campaigning activities throughout the nation.”
”We are gathered here today as future leaders of our nation, and it is an honor for me to stand before you as the president of this wonderful country and a contender for reelection to a second term. Despite political differences, all citizens must work together to keep the peace in the nation. Let’s set aside our differences for the good of the country and practice dialogue to create a Liberia that will be an example for the rest of Africa.”
The Liberian leader made the remarks on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at a day-long intensive conference on fostering peaceful general elections in 2023 with 2023 presidential candidates and members of the board of commissioners of the National Elections Commission, ECOWAS, and UN-Liberia.
