Pres. Weah to Retire Chief Justice Korkpor, You are retired, but not worn out

President George Weah has praised Justice Korkpor noting that he has paid his dues since the time when he advocated for justice and human rights as a representative of the civic society.

“Justice Korkpor has paid his dues, dating as far back as when he championed the cause in the advocacy of justice and human rights”.

The Liberian leader made the assertion on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, during the official retirement ceremony of Chief Justice Francis S. Korkpor, Sr.

Mr. Weah said, during the work of the retired Chief Justice at the justice of peace commission established by the Catholic Church in the early 90s to address human rights abuses and injustices, and hostility, Justice Korkpor quietly but fearlessly made a case for peace and justice for all Liberians, especially for the under-privilege and the poor.

President Weah added that many times the outgoing Chief Justice’s work brought him into conflict with some of Liberia’s past leaders but he always remained steadfast to the cause of justice.

He however noted that Justice Korkpor’s record for over two decades as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is exemplary and outstanding.

The Liberian leader maintained that the retired chief Justice dedicated his time first as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court and later as a chief Justice to see through judicial reform as well as other development and infrastructure of the court to bring justice to the citizens.

President Weah reminded the Judiciary of the crucial role it plays in the maintenance of the high-earned peace Liberia has enjoyed for the last eighteen years, while admonishing the Supreme Court bench to remain a critical voice as the country approaches the 2023 General and Presidential elections.

“We are so cognized of the crucial role the judiciary plays in the maintenance of our high-earned peace. Therefore, as we head to general and presidential elections next year, it is expected that you continue to remain a critical voice as we solidify our democratic credentials as a nation”.

Mr. George Weah further lamented that in order to dispense blind justice to all, the judiciary should rally around the foundation laid by the retired Chief Justice Francis S. Korkpor.
