President Boakai Declares Wednesday ‘Human Rights Day’

Capitol Hill, Monrovia – In a proclamation, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. declared Wednesday, December 10, 2025, to be International Human Rights Day. The Republic will mark this day as a working holiday.

As a result, President Boakai has urged all citizens and foreign residents, national and international organizations, and relevant government institutions to collaborate with the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR) in carrying out suitable initiatives appropriate for commemorating the Day.

The theme for this year’s International Human Rights Day is “HUMAN RIGHTS OUR EVERYDAY ESSENTIALS,” according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry. The Proclamation states that this year’s festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m. Ante Meridian in Monrovia City Hall in the City of Monrovia, Montserrado County.

The Proclamation further stated that the day is symbolic because it conveys gratitude for partnership and ongoing cooperation with the goal of enhancing cooperation between the Liberian people, the Independent National Commission on Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRIs), and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The Proclamation explained that the foundation for the annual International Human Rights Day celebration is the proclamation and the existence of human rights standards, which guarantee the promotion, protection, and respect for human rights by state parties.
