Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai withheld forty percent of his income, according to information released by the Executive Mansion through Presidential Press Secretary Kula Fofana.
Madam Fanana stated that the country’s inhabitants will receive the 40% deduction from the President’s pay during a press conference on Friday, July 5, 2024 at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia.
“The President has instructed me to inform the nation that he will have a 40% pay cut, with the proceeds going to the people of Liberia.
Although Madam Fofana was unable to reveal which institution or exactly where the 40% would go, she gave Liberians the assurance that the information would be made public following talks with the President.
However, a statement from Executive Mansion claims that the President’s 40% pay reduction is a fulfillment of his pledge to maintain national financial stability and budgetary integrity.
According to PPS Fofana, the action is intended to establish a model for responsible leadership and nation-building.
The head of Liberia has promised to give the Civil Service Agency (CSA) more authority in order to guarantee that public employees’ pay commensurate with the country’s current situation and that they are fairly compensated for their services.
In an effort to promote an environment of accountability and equity within the government, President Boakai also vowed to be financially responsible and to provide public officials from all societal segments with fair salaries.
