President Boakai Meets with JICA President on the Sidelines of TICAD 9

Yokohama, Japan – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., met with Dr. Tanaka Akihiko, president of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to discuss ways to improve Liberia-Japan development cooperation. President Boakai made remarks at the gathering and emphasized the agency’s important contributions to Liberia’s development and rehabilitation, especially in the areas of infrastructure, agriculture, and health.

He praised ongoing Japanese investment in rural livelihoods and health systems and advocated for the successful LIBRICE initiative to be expanded to other counties.

Dr. Tanaka, president of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), commended President Boakai’s goal of inclusive and people-centered growth and reiterated JICA’s strong commitment to Liberia’s development.

He thanked Liberia for its perseverance in rebuilding after years of hardship and gave the President his word that JICA will remain a dependable ally in this endeavor.

Dr. Tanaka underlined that Liberia is an important partner for Japan’s development cooperation in West Africa because of its stability and advantageous position. He also pledged to improve cooperation in vital fields such decentralized health care delivery, youth skill development, agricultural productivity, and rural infrastructure.

According to Dr. Tanaka, JICA’s strategy is to collaborate closely with local communities and national leadership to make sure that initiatives are not only sustainable but also significantly improve the lives of regular people. He pointed out that in the upcoming years, expanding interventions and strengthening collaboration will be made possible by the achievements already made in Liberia.
